This year the Daytona Reptile Expo's Auction will go to benefit gharial conservation efforts headed by the Gharial Conservation Alliance (GCA). Rom Whitaker, Chairman of the GCA and founder of the Madras Crocodile Bank Trust in India, will be attending the Expo and will have a booth offering a number of books he has authored, as well as, information on the gharial situation, the GCA, and how people can help. We are now beginning to gather things for the auction and are asking that you and/or your institution consider donating items that will help us raise funds, anything will be greatly appreciated. Please contact either Colette Adams at the Gladys Porter Zoo or me, so we can make arrangements to get your donation to Daytona. Doug, what a great cause ! Most folks here do not know how many hundreds of Gharials have died in the last year, from mysterious reasons. We hear a lot about the plight of frogs, but not of Crocodiles................... I will donate some snake hooks, transport boxes, and perhaps reptile books to help in the Daytona Auction. Is this the show coming up in August ??? Looking forward to seeing you and Rom there. Best Regards JohnZ

Yes John, The gharial plight is a sad one indeed. They have been dropping off by the ton and that's not a good thing for any species, especially one as critical as these. DH

The Boss and I try to make the auction every year. I always buy something - most often wind up with something I don't need. We look forward to seeing you again, Doug, along with our many friends at the annual pilgrimage to Daytona. R/ Karl

Rom should be a big draw - it sure got my attention and I'm going to see if I can make it. Doug, if you need some donation items give me a shout. I myself will not be there unfortunately. I should be up to my a$$ in my new surroundings by then, still living out of boxes! Getting acclimated (i.e. pacing, pushing at the lid, not eating, all that translocation-trauma stuff!) Larry may be there, I too will probably send along some items with him. DH
