Actually, St. Patric did not drive the "Snakes" out of Ireland.
Seems that folks translating texts from the 6'th Century took the meaning of Snakes a bit too Literally.
What he did was get together an army of missionaries, and drive a very wicked human cult out of Irland. The Cult referred to themselves as "Snakes" and did cool things like sacrifice their first born child to proove their worthyness.
There is a fasinating article about this that I will try to dig up and post.
