The HSUS, API, and PETA are all huge funders of politicians. They have no choice but to be swayed by the people who are buying them. Even NYS governor Pataki, who was also a reptile keeper, signed a bill banning exotics in NY. One of the animals on the list was also one that he kept. Go figure. There are no hard facts related to the dangers of keeping exotics to the public. It's nothing more than powerful groups hammering politicians to ban animals. And no matter what anyone thinks, PETA and the HSUS are powerful enough to bring bans.

It is not likely that the DEC is going to raid Governor Pataki's home and take his pet, LOL.
Just for the record Tom, just what kind of critter was the gov keeping ?

LOL. Not likely. Spitzer, now that's a whole different story. Apparently, he kept some monitors and iguanas.
Don't quote me on that as I'm not 100% sure. I wish I could site some references, but I'm at a loss. However, considering the risks of salmonella and the dangers of lizards, I can understand that.
Anyone smell something?..........it's a big, steamy load of sarcasm.
I remember when an ordinance official came into my apartment for a gas leak. He noticed my group of CB poison dart frogs. His response? "You can't keep those, they're deadly". My response? Do some research.
He did, and realized that CB PDF's are harmless. Nothing more from him. If only the agenda having activists were so open to do a little research and realize that many of us provide a good, safe home to the animals we care for.
