best thing to do with bitis, rock rattlesnake, and leaf tailed gecko during power outage in NC. What temp is still healthy? obviously highr is recommended for the bitis and gecko. Would it help to put them in pillow cases and stuff them in a hamper with lots of blankets? I do have a gas furnace, but all it seems good for right now is hot water(which helps with my fish).

How about Hot water bottles? Putting them in blankets will only be of limited use, since they give off no body heat for the blankets to trap. Fill some milkjugs or hot water bottles repeatedly until you get power back on....or find a friend with power and transport them if the roads aren't too bad.

i dont think that the pillow case and blankets will work!!! Reptiles are ecto-thermic, which means they cant create their own body heat, they relly on basking spots, like the sun, heating pad, basking lamp etc. so if you have a power failure, i'd suggest u pet them in or near the sun, and you'l then just have to wait for the power to get going again. Do not put them in glass tanks in the sun, as i have heard stories of the glas magnifying the sun rays entering the cage, and could be harmful to your reptiles!!! Pls any one correct me if i'm wrong!!! i hope i have helped a bit. keep well

Buy a portable power pack. These units are designed to be rechargeable and will run small appliances/heatpads for up to 12 hours. As an added benefit many are designed with built in jumper cables so you can use it to jumpstart a car.
They retail for around $100.00 which is a small price to pay for the added peace of mind.
Good Luck!

Can you post the actual brand/model and where? Are these available at Lowe's or Home Depot or Sears?
Thanks
Matt

we buy our battery backups at a computer store, the brand is APC and you can get any size to run whatever you may have...we use it on our incubators, heat tape, and anywhere we need it....we have alot of power outages here and it has saved our butts several times...APC has a website that can help you figure your exact needs/ and model that will work....

Matt,
I believe Sears carries them. They would be with the automotive supplies or in the tool section.
I don't have a specific brand model but if you do a search for portable power packs you should come up with plenty to choose from.
Good Luck
