does anyone know if different copperhead species have more toxic venom than others or are they all the same. If they are different what is the most toxic?

Cody,
Generally speaking toxicities of any species vary from one population to another (and even from one individual to the next and one day to the next). BGF's webpage has LD50 for copperheads (http://www.venomdoc.com/LD50/LD50men.html), but I don't see any head to head comparison between subspecies. I can't think of a single study comparing population toxicities for these subspecies.

I do not have any studies to back this up, is is just a hunch.
However, I would be willing to bet that the venom of the Trans-Pecos Copperhead is somewhat different in makeup from the other Copperheads.
Perhaps stronger, perhaps not, but because the snake is more of a lizard eater, and usually lives in a very different habitat than the other Copperheads, I think we might see a difference upon further study.
Wether a somewhat different venom composition would cause a difference in the severity of a bite to a human, it is difficult to say, but I see it as a possibiltiy.
Best Regards JohnZ
