cytotoxic venom

does anyone know what the difference between cytotoxic venom and hemotoxic venom? from what ive read its almost the samething. a friend of mine got bit by a puff adder and the effects looked like a bite from a pitviper.

Hi:
It's not the same because the target tissues are different. Cytotoxins targets connective tissues that hold cells together as well as the plasma membranes of the cells themselves. Hemotoxins effects the tissues,cells, and clotting factors in your blood. More or less can be simplified to everything inside your blood vessels.

Both cytotoxins and hemotoxins are proteolytic. Proteolytic may be a more useful term as it encompasses hemotoxic (blood destroying), Cytotoxic (cell destroying), myotoxic (muscle destroying) and hemmorhagic (bleeding) effects. It would be difficult to characterize venoms as exclusively one or the other, as many have multiple effects, and thinking of them in such simplified terms leads to confusion and error.
