What are the applicable laws governing hunting & collection of indigenous herps, both hot & cold, in South & North Carolina ??

I can only answer for South Carolina.Currently the state requires a collecting permit for the collection of snakes for scientific purposes or for propagation.This is required for both nonvenomous and venomous.The only species of snake that is protected from collection or possession of is the Eastern Indigo. The annual fee for the collecting permit is $10.00 and before renewal the permittee must provide a list of species collected and their disposition. The Wildlife Diversity Section of South Carolina's Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) administers the Collecting Permit program.
