Man orders pet python to attack police officers

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) -- Bridgeport police say they arrested a city man after he ordered his pet to attack two officers. Lucky for them that 9-foot-long pythons aren't very obedient.
Police Lt. James Viadero says 21-year-old Victor Rodriguez was charged with threatening police and disorderly conduct after Monday's incident. No one was hurt.
Officers were called to Rodriguez's apartment on a report that he was threatening his girlfriend with the pet reptile.
Viadero says that when the building superintendent opened the apartment door for the officers, Rodriguez allegedly threatened them with the snake and told it to ''Get them!''
Rodriguez and his pet were both taken away: Rodriguez to jail on a $10,000 bond, and the albino python to the city's animal control shelter.

Larry,
I've known too many morons to doubt this story is (at very least partially) true. I would also be willing to bet that there was some 'liquid courage' involved in this (athough I hear it now comes in fast acting powder form) ;)

Oh, I've seen plenty of morons too, and certainly don't doubt that one could have threatened the cops with a python.
I guess it's more in the lack of details that I see a lot of room for "interpretation".
First, I've seen a lot of cops, even when they WERE on camera and knew it, intentionally goad drunk people into doing stupid things that they can arrest them for while they knew they were in a condition to make poor judgements.
Second, even if it wasn't simply a joke (one I use fairly often), if the python was laying on the floor somewhere and the guy yells "get 'em", that's about as much of a threat as telling your toaster to "get 'em". And he's in jail.
Now, if he was chasing them (or his girlfriend) around with it, that's a different story, but one would think that would warrant mention...

"Now, if he was chasing them (or his girlfriend) around with it, that's a different story, ..."
The article did say that he was "threatening" his girl friend with it. Hard to tell exactly what that means.
If this ever went to court, it would be amusing to hear the testimony of the various participants. It's entirely possible that you would end up wondering if all of them were really in the same room seeing the same thing.
Having read, over the years, hundreds (thousands?) of stories chronicling truly remarkable human stupidity, the events described here cannot be dismissed as totally implausible.
Regardless, let us be charitable. At least the alleged perpetrator hasn't qualified for a Darwin Award. Yet.
