John,
Ocala national forest is just north of Olando(about 10-20 miles)and has some great hiking trails, near Juniper springs, and you may have a decent shot at seeing C.adamanteus, depending on the time of year of course. It is very beautiful and we spent a great deal of time exploring and just taking in all the wildlife....you'll love it...you can walk for hours so take a lunch and some snacks, plus lots of water. And post any picts you take for us!!!!

One more thing, it can be frustrating at times to locate EDB's, in some areas years ago and I think even still today, they were hit really hard by the hide hunters, etc. I read that from 1990-92 that 10,000 hides were exported from fl each year, and previously the Ross Allen Reptile institute shipped out 50,000 hides in a 25 year period. And that was located very near the Ocala national forest, but they can be found with a little patience and alot of luck..try flipping the saw palmetto leafs, and watching for Gopher tortose burrows( but dont go fooling around with it, its illegal) sometimes you can spot one near the entrance. In that time of year(Sept) you may find some neonates hiding under the saw palmetto leafs on the ground as well....

Hey, I was wondering what is the best time to take a trip down to Florida to find venomous snakes? I am from PA and haven't been to florida many times. I would like to know what month I will have the best chances and where if anyone doesn't mind giving out any "secret locations". I do not field collect. I enjoy the day herping and the only time i would ever touch the snakes is to move them for a better picture.
If you do not feel comfortable posting on here feel free to email me at kidrock23642069@aol.com
Thanks a lot, Derek

South Fl best time is February
Central Fl early to late February
North Fl early to mid March
North Fl and South GA March
GA and SC late march and April
I often find them to be basking on sunny and cloudy days with temps ranging from 50-78 degrees when it gets much hotter than the 80's it gets hard to find these snakes they retreat back into their shelters wheather it be gopher tortise burrow, armadillo, or old house foundation or wind rows that border fields where brush and pushed up stumps are along with rabbits and cotton rats
hope this helps
