Hello, I'm a 12 year old whos not allowed to keep snakes at all, but loves hots to death. I would like to know if anything could further prevent anaphylaxis when working with spitting cobras, possibly a dustmast or a ventilator. Thanks in advance for help.

its not inhaling that develops the allergy, you develop the allergy by getting the venom on your skin, so if you get bit it is worse than the bite itself, arin

To clarify, my mom was on the computer for a while and thats why I couldn't respond. No, Im not allowed to own a garter snake, and I wont for my moms sake. I dont plan on hots till I move out of the house, and I will try as hard as I can to get a mentor before I move out. Thanks for the replies and sorry I couldn't respond earlier.

And also, Arin, you claim you were owning hots at age 6, so why would you get worked up over a 12 year old who cares to know what anaphylaxis means who ask an intelligent question none to less wanting to keep hots not to be cool, but for a love for them. And I spent my time reading a lot on here, and I read on venomous whenever I can. I own hooks and tongs so I have a much better chance of not being bit by a hot when I search for them, and Im determined to not have my mom kill me if I survive a bite, and if I do get bit, Ill hide my equipment so your hobby doesn't get banned. Sorry for the rant, its just I got worked up over the post, and sorry if I offended anyone.

One way to improve your odds is simply to wait until you've had some experience working with other venomous. You'll learn how to handle them without upsetting them, which will result in a lot less spitting when you move on to a spitter.
Most calm down very quickly in captivity and hardly ever spit unless you intentionally provoke them...or handle them badly.

I herp at a spot that is infested with water snakes
and I use those as sort of an anolog for ticked off venomous snakes. I know they had a succesful breeding season, because I saw one give birth, and one week later I caught one of the babys again. every time I get bit by one, I put in my head that if it was venomous, I would be dead or my family would be ticked at the bill and at me for picking it up. I dont say Im an expert, because no one is in more than one field, but I feel that I could successfully keep my areas snakes, but as I said before, I wont for my moms sake.

Thanks Arin, I am a bit of a hot head at times, but I'll try to keep my cool most of the time. Like I said, I dont want the hobby to go underground, and I dont want to start fights but like rattlesnakes, I will defend myself if neccessary.
