I agree with others. My heart goes out to the family, but there are pieces missing in this puzzle.

A 13-month old, 39-inch male water moccasin with drained venom sacks was later found and killed....Unbelievable, I'm sure we haven't heard the last of this.I don't even want to speculate on how this happened..very heart breaking for the family.

This is how it works... no one at this site is buying the Army's line, but to the larger, uneducated populace, it all sounds only too plausible. It's so easy to blame a snake, and most people (present company excluded) won't even bat an eye. Where in the world did they come up with 13 months? Was it a CBB with dog tags? Or did they count the rings? Actually, 13 months would put the birth of the snake at May the year before, a bit early for wild A. piscivorous, which are dropping their babies about now. Drained venom glands? Utterly preposterous, as is the idea of a cottonmouth reaching 39 inches (a very respectable size for NC) in a year and a month. Plus, as the release states, the man was in perfect health and top physical condition. Smells like the ol' coverup to me. I just hate to see snakes so easily blamed... this is why all of our ongoing efforst at education are so important. I really hope the family will not accept this bogus conclusion and investigate further.

Actually, Fred, there is one person at this site who is buying the Army's line, even though it has "oficially" changed on the Army site now 3 times, LOL.
That person has suggested that that all of the 225 different news outfits that have so far printed the story so far have all gotten the story wrong. Wow, 225 and counting "third rate cut and pasted articles ?"
He has stated "I am also sure that whatever the Public Relations Officer released to the press was cut and pasted to save space in a third rate article that made the "facts" implausible to anyone who knows snakes yet palatable to the general snake-hating public."
While it is true that the news folks and press do make many errors, it is really difficult to believe that all of them would. We are after all not talking about a single news article that got repeated time and time again, but hundreds of news articles by hundreds of news reporters.
It is much more likely that the Army is not allowing more questions on the matter, and is sticking to their latest press release. The original press release said one snake bite was involved, then it became two bites from the cottonmouth, now, it is oficially multiple bites. They supposedly conducted a autopsy. Just how difficult is it to count fang punctures ?
Also, all of the specifics about the cottonmouth snake, like how old it was, and how long it was, and it's sex, and the story that the venom glands were dry were origianally part of the Army News Release. Now, they are not !
One has to wonder why those were removed ? Perhaps because folks like us on this site called BS on the original official story ? Anyone think the Army went scramblig for a better story ????
All one has to do is search the army sites for official news releases and look at the dates. But do it quick, as the original two stories are being taken down from the official army sites very quickly.
Soon, only folks who have subscribed to news feeds, and who have been reading about this for several days, and who have not deleted the original material, will be the only ones with the earlier stories.
Anyone here ever heard of a cottonmouth producing multiple bites ?
Hummmmm........... The soldier gets "multiple" bites from a cottonmouth, and then does not bother to use his signal whistle, or his strobe light, or his reflective belt, or a supposed emergency signal built into his GPS device ?
The Army probably did hope that the general snake hating public would not think twice about this. Most of them do not.
However, it would be really unfortunate if that brave young soldier died during his Green Beret training, and the Army did cover up the true cause of his death.
Especially if it was some sort of murder or suicide.
The official "facts" in this story stink ! There are just far too many changed stories, and conflicting reports.
Someone in the State, or Federal Government, outside of the Army, needs to get involved, and do a independent investigation.

I find it very dissapointing, but not surprizing, that one individual here would label the attention of all of the other folks at this site who show a concern for the fate of the young Green Beret trainee soldier, and who show a concern about for all of the missing information in this story, as "hilarious."
About 30 people who are site members here have seen something wrong in the news feeds concerning this story. There are hundreds of news feeds out there concerning this event, and they differ quite a bit.
That is why folks are suspicious. And when you look at the official statements on the Army site, and how they have been changed, and deleted, you will find more reasons to be suspicious.
I guess some folks do not think that the Army or Navy are capable of spinning facts, or trying to cover up something.
Tailhook never happened, because the Public Relations Officer released official statements saying that it did not ?
And 100 Russian Sailors did not die on the Kursk, after a American Sub rammed it during cat and mouse games, because the Public Relations Officer released official statements saying that the US did not have subs in the area ? Perhaps it was rammed by a giant squid ????
Best Regards John Z

The story doesn't make sense , and military cover up is an every day thing . Maybe some noise needs to be made , to encourage an outside investigation . If some of those news sources were to hear " foul play " from multiple and knowledgeable people ,,,,,,

I am very close to the Murburg family.
Ehren was not murdered.
The Army gave the family a plausible story and they have accepted and made peace with it. Thank you for your concern towards the topic.

I am glad to see there is a follow up on this story. Just like the Pat Tillman incident, the Army only worries about one thing, and that is what is best for the Army as a whole, not the individual soldier, and will cover up what ever they have to. Very sad story, and I hope one day the family will have closure.
