This site is aimed at educating people about venomous snakes. As such, we are used quite often as a research tool for school kids from all over the country. Just last night I filled out and returned a questionaire about Brown Tree Snakes that came to us from a young lady in the midwest.
Our members include people from all over the world and from all walks of life. As you use our forum it is essential to recognize that a certain amount of care must be given to prevent overtly offensive behavior.
Personal attacks, foul language and anything else that might be considered to be in poor taste or overtly rude will be removed.
In most cases, the originator is emailed explaining the removal, especially if it might be the result of a legitimate misunderstanding. When there can be no mistaking the offense, it is summarily removed.
Please make no mistake, this forum is for public use but it is not owned and operated by the public. Our web team can and will remove things that they find offensive.
Any questions can be directed to myself at Buzztail1@hotmail.com or to Chris Harper at webmaster@venomousreptiles.org.

I can't imagine what triggered that outburst, especially coming from someone who lists his occupation as a game department emplyee in North Carolina, but I'm pleased you saw and removed it as soon as you did.
Unlike the fellow who apparently doesn't like you much (LOL), I find your responses here to be quite restrained in light of some of the threads that have been hased out on this forum.
I know I've said it before, but I'll take this opportunity to thank you and Chris for your hard work and for putting up with the headaches associated with maintaining a web site. It will please me a great deal when I get to shake your hand to thank you in person. Until that day, please accept my sincerest thanks for all you do.

We are just trying to make this a pleasant place to exchange the information that wasn't available when we started out.
I have been incredibly fortunate to have met and associated with some of the people that are involved in this "hobby." I look forward to the day I meet both of you.
It is not important that people like me, appreciate me or even respect what I do (although I do greatly appreciate the votes of confidence) as long as they are responsible in the information that they put out and not offensive to others using our site. It happens every once in a while and I try to be fair about how I handle it. Just trying to treat others how I would wish to be treated.
Thanks again,
Karl

May I suggest a language filter?

Generally when people include certain words in their posts, especially in reference to their fellow keepers, it isn't because they are being responsible with their information or considerate of the fact that school children use this site.
May I suggest an automatic language filter that bounces any posts with certain words?

It is certainly your right to think so.
It is not your right to use that kind of language in public or where asked not to.
Here we ask people not to.
It is not our right to teach other people's children foul language. Just the thought of that is ridiculous in the extreme.
Anyone that does not care to censor their own language to use this site will end up having their language censored. That's just the way it is.

i just think that software to censor certain groups of letters(which is what most do) is unnecessary...i completely understand the point, but if it wasn't free, then it just seems wasteful....it's just as easy to use "clean words" to mean the same thing, sometimes worse....it's just easier to blame profanity instead of the ideas they provoke i guess, i dunno
