Ok fellow herpers, They are very close in tissue destruction, but if you had to be bitten by either the Puff Adder or the Ferdelance, what would you choose? just a light hearted question for fun. I think I would pick the Ferdelance for what reason, I don't know. Grey

I think the ferdelance has a tendency to inject a larger amount of venom, just out of spite. I would have to say the puffadder, who seems to be more people friendley. Justin Cope

In the spirit of the question, I do not know enough about either species to choose one or the other. As I understand it, these two snakes produce an incredible amount of venom, pain and damage.
Given that I am receiving a bite from animals that are fairly equivalent in those three categories, I would have to look to the recoverability after receiving antivenin. I guess I would choose a Puff because I haven't seen the post-op damage they leave behind and I have seen a recovered Fer-de-lance bite victim.
A bite from either animal is almost to horrible to contemplate.

Being bitten by the puff adder 3 years ago, and losing part of my leg from only 100mg of it's venom, i will pick him and hope i don't have 1st hand experience of the other choice.

This one is kind of......."which would you rather be shot by, an M-16 or an AK-47?" They are really too close in their long term clinical effects to make any major difference. If I had a gun to my head and I had to choose, I'd flip a coin. Another analogy would be, "Which shin would you rather be kicked in, the left or right?" ;-)

I would prefer the Puff Adder because the amount of venom injected by Ferdelance is more, and it also gives multiple bites. In fact Ferdelance is responsible for the most fatalities from snake-bites.
