We started the discussion on this thread (skip political Kool Aid posts please)

Anyway, those of you that hate auctions and swap meets and reptile shows, you need to stop whining NOW and stop asking for them to be shut down. States usually have animal cruelty statutes, so next time you go to animal sale event, find out beforehand what the state/county/city animal cruelty/abuse statutes are, who (which agency, agriculture, wildlife or animal control) is enforcing them and IF you truly see something objectionable/illegal, call the enforcement agency, that is what I call self regulation, stop whining, get to work to clean out industry

That is my experience with animal shows, I never see anything wrong, but it has been few years since I went. But so many here whine and complain, so IF there is something wrong, whiners should print the animal laws and contacts, take it with them and do something if any real abuse is really happening at shows.
It is like many of these AR big cat sanctuaries claiming they rescue exotic cats from canned hunts, the little known fact is big cat canned hunts are extremely illegal in all US states. When I challenge these scamstuaries to name these canned places and report them to proper authorities, so they can be persecuted, nobody can name even one big cat canned hunt place. It is all just fake sobbing story plot to get money of stupid/naïve donors, in other words, consumer fraud
anyway, I want to gove the whiners a benefit of doubt, if something illegal is happening, get the evidence and report it, that si a good start.

Nice baiting Z. I didn't realize reporting on the deplorable conditions at some animal auctions and tourist attractions was considered whining? I apologize for caring about the conditions in which the animals are being kept.
You are correct though, such actions should be reported to the proper authorities. I really doubt I'll ever attend another animal auction, but should I, I'll be sure to bring a copy of the state's regulations.
I could be mistaken, and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I get the feeling that you don't believe abuse goes on at these events? It seems like you've set yourself against the "AR movement" so strongly, that you now automatically dismiss any real stories of abuse at the hands of exotics keepers. Unfortunately, doing so makes you no better than those who simply want to take away our privileges just to suit their political agenda. It only serves to make you an apologist for those unfit to keep animals.

Chance, actually, in this case the whining comment was not directed at you and you only. I had many discussions over this over many years with many different people. Considering people are still whining, years later, (not you personally only),then the supposed ‘abuse’ is still going on, so my advice is, if it is going on, fix it and stop whining but don’t fix it with swap meet bans, not everybody there is bad.
Actually, my worst discussion on this subject was with a hypocrite from Ohio, about 5 foot tall male, early 20s, he can keep constrictors/hors/crocs , but others shouldn’t. I will not name him in public, but he pissed me off many times with his attitude (not on this forum, so don’t bother to search for clues in the archives here).
When I asked him for any data/proofs, all he could provide people wearing NON venomous snakes around their necks on very few occasions and NO proof of anybody getting killed or seriously getting injured by this, human or animals. Little prick attitude is all I got from him

Thank you for clarifying then Z. I completely agree with your assessment of the young man in OH based on your description. There are, unfortunately, a lot of hypocrites in the world on all sides of the fence. "Do as I say, not as I do" kind of people. Ironically, I would wager that a number of incidents involving exotic animals, both reptillian and non, occur at the hands of people like that. Of course I have no hard statistics to back it up, but I have heard a few accounts of people like that getting injured by their critters. Kind of a just reward, maybe, but of course it only serves to further convince people that the animals need to be out rightly banned.
