Front opening cages?

I don't know if you guys remember or not, but I've been making some cages. My top-opening vs. front opening topic made me decide to make a front opening cage.
I took open and closed pictures of the cage and put it as my profile picture. Tell me how you like it?
Now to my question - How do cages that open like the one I made compare to cages like Vision cages that have two separate peices of glass that allow you to access the side of the cage the snake is not on.. (or is on in some cases)?
Thanks,
Jon Short

Oh yeah, I'll post some pictures on here of the cage system I'm getting ready to make. It's going to be 3 separate cages that are 30"x18"x12". They are all going to be front-opening like the one in my profile picture, but with a few small modifications.

Good news and bad news.
I personally don't like vision cages much for venomous because it's hard to open/close them without getting your fingers too close to the opening. With your design you can flip the hasp and use a hook to open/close the cage from a distance (by sticking the end of the hook in the part of the hasp attached to the door).
The bad news is that because of the placement of the hasp you can't stack an identical cage on top of that one...

Yes, that is one of the modifications that will be made on the new ones I'm building. These will have safety gate hooks on them.

They look good.Moving the hasp off the top would be a good idea. Also, I prefer to use a piano hinge all the way across the door instead of one small hinge on each end. Looks like you did a good job. Marty

It does have linoleum tile below the bedding. And about the piano hinges - Do they add extra strenghth or something? These two hinges are plenty strong for what wear and tear should happen to them.

The kind of cages displayed are okay, but not my personal preference - requires too much two handed manipulation and when you are working with a fast elapid, or, something that is difficult to manage, this design will make it extremely difficult - just my opinion though.

The piano hinges are just my preference. And mine swing open to the side. They can be used as a kind of sheild and controled allot better than a swing down door. But its all personal preference, use the style you feel comfortable with.I tried all different types over the years before I settled on what I have now.
