I, too, am a big fan of piano hinges.
Some good points have been made about them.
The more screws you use, the better chance you have that the hinge won't shift or warp.
The better quality screws that you use, the better the hinge will last.
Some of the small screws that people typically use with piano hinges have threads that do not cut very deep. Therefore, they may not hold well in the wood.
I use longer screws because the threads stick out further from the shank of the screw and therefore get a better anchor hold in the wood - making the hinge and cage more sturdy and safe. That's a big plus when designing cages for dangerous animals!
Don't get too stuck on just one design. There is no ONE design that is the best for any and all venomous snakes. But, absolutely make each and every design as safe as you can.
