Can you identify this snake

Hi,
I was hoping someone could help me identify this snake I found on my front door, I live in guanacaste, Costa Rica: http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/5193/snakeguanacastecostaricra7.jpg

The snake appears to be one of the harmless Cat-Eyed Snakes, of the Leptodeira group.
It is not a Fer-de-Lance.

That is one of the easier snakes I have had the opportunity to identify (I believe).
That is Trimorphodon biscutatus - the Lyre Snake.
It is rear-fanged but its venom is only mildly toxic to humans.
The patterning on these snakes is very distinct especially at the head and neck.

Good call Karl. That does look like a Lyre Snake.
I knew they ranged through Mexico, but it is nice to learn that the subspecies Trimorphodon biscutatus quadruplex is found throughout Central America.

Wow, the Lyre Snake definitely looks a lot more like the snake outside my house than anything else. Thank you very much for the quick identification.

Way to go, Karl... definitely Trimorphodon, a favorite of mine and one of my first "venomous" species. Beautiful snake.
