AquaHerp,
u r right, PIJAC is great when more mainstream domestic and exotic pets are involved. And yes, PIJAC was involved with rejecting/opposing last year version of this idiocy hr6311.
However, when it comes to more unconventional animals/pets (hots, big cats, large monitors and constrictors, gators,…), we the ‘lunatic fringe’ as public sees us are standing alone with no representation in the lobby industry.
Other problem is the gov/legislators are not listening to stake holders and real handson experts when passing bills. I am sure if they had brain tumor they would go to brain surgeon and not somebody scared of needles for advice, but they can not apply this rationale in their job. They listen to white collar no animal experts AR (HSUS, PETA), instead of us the owners/keepers/handlers or even the agency stuck enforcing the stupid laws.
Bad bill affecting Lacey act already passed in 2003, making it a felony for big cat pet owners (non USDA), transferring their pet across state line for any reason, even not allowed in cases for medical emergency or natural disaster evacuation. If I take my pet across state lines i am committing a felony, just for being a respinsible owner trying to save my pet in natural disaster, or take it to soem special veterinarian in CA instead of NV, how messed up is that???
The agency that is stuck enforcing the law, USDI, US wildlife service opposed the bill, but it still passed, here is their opposing speech:
http://www.fws.gov/laws/testimony/108th/2003/hogancaptivewildlife.htm
Last few years non human primate version of this bill has been introduced, still not passed, HSUS keeps pushing,...and in this case too USDI is opposing it again:
http://www.rexano.org/Federal_Canada/Safety_primate_USFW.pdf
So don’t hate USDI, they just have to enforce what naïve AR friendly idiots make into the law, hate the legislators passing this crap, be scared, very scared, this county is going to hell, laws based on fear and hysteria instead of real need and science

http://www.rexano.org/HR6311_Wildlife_Invasion_Frame.htm
too many idiots with impressive titles (white collar desinfected people) supporting this crap, even if USDI (US fish/wildlife service) opposes it, so what, our stupid gov has a history of pasing AR bills no mater how much experts (us owners, USDI,etc...) protest/oppose.
Brains move over, stupidity is taking over.

USArk has recently sent out a very alarmist call to action. It is very important to read the legislation for yourself and realize that it does not indeed ban everything except domestic animals.
It gives two years for all parties concerned to come up with an agreeable risk assessment process that will indeed ban the riskiest animals but allow over 85% of what is currently being imported - and then still gives a process to petition a listing.
Did you know that 588,000 live wild animals (across over 2,200 species) are brought in to the US daily, most without any kind of quarentine period? Is it silly to think that we should be a little smarter about looking at what we are bringing in?

USARK letter might be alarmist (for the right reasons), because the HR669 bills is extremely paranoid and alarmist in itself. Since human to human transmission causes more diseases, maybe we need to quarantine foreigners before we start to quarantine the animals? Is there any exotic animal epidemic wiping out US population??? I would start with the quarantine on leftist journalists and AR freaks, since they travel the globe and might bring weird human disease upon returning, weird diseases for which there is no vaccine or cure.
