1) venom evolution and the origin of venom in squamates
2) Marine vs. terrestrial origin
3) What squamate clade is sister to snakes
4) development of drugs, research tools and diagnostics from (or modeled after) snake toxins
5) development of safer and more effective snakebite treatments
6) better resolution of existing squamate phylogenies
7) alpha taxonomy
8) conservation
9) more 3d structures of snake toxins and discovery of specific targets, receptors and biochemical interactions of toxins on living systems
....etc....etc...etc...

Another wide topic. We are still in the dark ages of understanding reptiles, more notably venomous species. I personally am encouraged by the aspect of biomedical applications of snake venoms and the captive propagation of certain species.

Dark ages indeed....as new data are being collected it is becoming increasingly clear how little we really know.

Rob I believe it works.Me an some friends relocated atrox adults mind you to a den at fall 200 miles from home. They continued to den there till this day .The problem now is the man who owned the land died. Now the new owner will not allow access to the land.He is also an avid snake killer. There time there is short. If he finds the den he will kill them all or gas them for sure. The reason I found out is he nearly shot me on his newly acquired land.He agreed to allow me to check the den if I showed him where it was so he could kill some.I respectfully declined. We did the relocation over a period of 15 years..Some snakes were never scene again. Some for many years. There offspring were also scene. It will work. The land we used was devoid of atrox for many reasons.Man being number 1.You can now drive the road on the edge of the land and see atrox. We only released in October directly into the den so the snakes over wintered in that den.

Thanks Archie, that's very encouraging! It's also very sad that the population you helped is in such a dire situation. Too bad this landowner can't work with you in perhaps removing some of the animals off of his property. What state is this in?
