My cousin and i just recently bought a pair of RAINBOW BOAS,and now the female is acting weird.. She breaths really heavy, and keeps lifting her tail, and pushing her rear out a little? We noticed this last night, but there is nothing new this morning? Does this sound like we may be expecting babies? Also she breaths and puffs out her chin, but the male does not do that?

Sounds to me like a respritory infection .Take her to a vet.If she is puffing in the throat, thats bad. There is a thread about this subject a bit back.

Shawn, what you describe with her lifting the tail sounds like a "I am ready to breed" signal that some snakes do, to let the male know they are ready and willing.
It is not likely it is about producing young, unless she is clearly gravid looking.
The breathing sound could be totally unrelated, and if it is a weezing or cough like sound, then could indeed be some sort of respirotory infection.
Are you keeping the animal warm ? Are you keeping them together, or in seperate cages ?
Give us a bit more information if you can.
Best Regards
John Z

Well she is not making any noise or any fluids coming fr80om face, and she does not constantly breath with throat,it's more like a threat or dominence display, and no fluid coming out of rear to signal the wiling to breed, but she is breathing heavy at times and it seems like she it pushing something inside down closer to tail, but it may be just my imagination and hoping?, anyways she is staying at 80 degrees or higher, and plenty of water and we mist her a little everyday, cause it says she needs humidity...
dunno? thanks all
Shawn
