I was woundering about how others are dealing with shipping there venomous snakes. It has taken me 8 mounth to get oked from delta airlines. I just got oked yesterday. not really hard to get, it just takes so long to get the inspectin. Is there others that are waiting for there inspections.??? and how long has it taken you.?? Thanks Spanky

Right...that's what you stated in the original question. NW will ship venomous and you are not required to be a verified shipper. They simply have you open up the box and inspect. THis to me, indicates that the FAA requirment excuse used by DELTA is simply there excuse for being to lazy to bother with inspecting shipments(which takes all of 2 minutes). My feeling is they simply don't care about the small fraction of business brought into them by venomous shippers.
To give you an example. I have shipped bushmasters and NW cargo personnel have actually kept them in their main office overnight to keep the animals warm. Last week I received a bushmaster from Strictly Reptiles, which arrived too late to pick up in NJ(was supposed to be shipped DASH...but that's another story). Delta LEFT THE SNAKE IN ITS 50 Degree warehouse OVERNIGHT!!! Fortunately there was a heat pack in the box, but it ran out well before I got there after work. The snake was alive, but now has a nice respiratory infection due to DELTA!!

No, other than you have to schedule it 24 hrs in advance. 1-800-NWCARGO. They give you an AWB # and check on the flight availability(verify they have a carrier serving that airport, e.g., after 9/11 they closed their cargo terminal in Little Rock....so the closest you can get is Memphis or Oklahoma City or Tulsa?).
That's it. After you ship a couple times, they generally ask if you want to become a verified shipper because then you need not do the inspections and it saves time.
