Whilst laying around in a fever induced stupor I decided to pass the time by wondering what would become of my collection should I buy the farm (die).
I knew I just had the flu but it got me to thinking what would happen if it would have been something more life threatening.
Kind of a morbid question I know but I would like to hear from others regarding the arrangements they have made to secure the welfare of their family and animals should the unthinkable happen.
We aren't always afforded the luxury of having time to sort our business before we shove off so I would really like to get a written plan in place for my family to give me some piece of mind.
Thank you in advance!

My wife is not a "snake person". She knows a couple of my friends that live nearby whom she would call to come get them, along with cages, tools, etc. What they do with them is up to them, Some they may add to their collections, some they may give to others. But they would be out of my wife's responsibility and cared for.

If I were to kick it, my partner knows he would have the option of either keeping our animals for educational use, or selling/giving away anything he didn't want. I no longer keep any exotic venomous or large snakes, and they were the ones that constantly gave him pause. Everything now is easily managed by either of us.
It is a very good question and one that anyone with a hot collection needs to consider...especially if that person in the only one in his/her household who has anything to do with the snakes. You don't want animal control to have to come sweeping in and wipe out a collection of gorgeous and amazing animals simply because you didn't take the time to make arrangements upon your passing.
Now for my question: Upon my death, who wants my debt? :)

i have also pondered on this in recent months....i have several animals in other people's collections on breeding loan and i have other people's snakes in my collection....i used to make lists every 6 months or so, of what i currently had, but haven't done that in at least a year....i think the next time i make one of my lists, i'm going to put the persons name and phone number next to the animals i'd like them to have....or the person that i trust to sell it, as my mother has helped me aquire some animals in the past and would like her to get some of her money back....
it is easier if your collection is to be handed over to one person.... but, with large collections or rare animals there may be some need to seperate...
my collection(100 plus hots) would be divided among as many as 5 or 6 people easy... all snakes out on breeding loan would become property of those who had them...snakes i have in my posession on loan going back to their owners...and the rest going to friends that would keep and breed them...
my 4 boas would be sold and the money givin to my mother... the 1 ratsnake, from my corn and king days, could be released inland as she's ugly, but her great great grandma was given to me by my grandpa when i was 17...
a journal just for this type of thing would be a wise decision for anyone with multiple animals... i don't know if it would be the same as a Will, but i believe most people's families would use these lists to distibute our animals...
and i have often heard people say "you'll have to leave it in your will" when talking about tortoises...

Well,
I have discussed this with my wife and she knows who to contact in case of a untimely death or accident that would leave me unable to care for my animals.
I have a large amount of venomous and non venomous that would need to be kept in groups, and others that just need to be sold off. Many others are "pets" that my son would keep, and turtles and tortoises that certain individuals have a fondness for would get them.
It is a burden to bear all animals upon one person as it would not be easy to add a large amount of animals to anyone's collection and be maintained properly.
I suggest a document drawn up and notorized to make it legal and binding. Things can change when it comes to people and wills.

I only have 1 Pictigaster and 3 Klauberi on the Hot side. They will be out of the house before I reach room temperature.
