TALLAHASSEE - Florida officials are considering a ban on Burmese pythons after a pet snake killed a 2-year-old girl last month.
Col. Julie Jones, director of law enforcement for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission on Wednesday told Gov. Charlie Crist that her agency is studying that option.
Crist also praised the commission's efforts to hunt for the invasive species, which can grow up to 26 feet long, in the wild during a visit to the agency's Tallahassee headquarters.
The governor had asked for the program after an 8 1/2-foot Burmese python escaped its tank and strangled Shaianna Hare at her central Florida home July 1.

Well, Good luck guy's. I find it ironic that you Florida guy's in the near future may own a King Cobra or Tai Pan but not a Reticulated Python. This smacks of feel good legislation pushed by career politicians who are scared to death of losing there job next year. Just like when they passed the crime bill of 92. It did nothing to curb crime or get guns off the street, but it did change the looks of so called "assault rifles" and made it so gangstas' would have to reload sooner.
