Quick question on hots in Mid-Michigan. If you know of any, I would really appreciate a mentor on handling. I understand if you can't actually RECOMMEND anyone, but any ideas would be helpful. Thank you, Tone.

Should you not be able to find an experienced venomous keeper. I would recomend that you start with species of venomous that are know to have low aggression and mild venom. Such as eyelash vipers, copper heads, Mangrove snake, desert horned viper or a Sidewinder would also be a good first rattler. Try to obtain a captive born baby if possible. Avoid Mamba's, Cobra's, Taipans or any snake that has a substantial striking range 5 - 6 feet or snakes with a neurotoxin type venom. Keep in mind venomous snakes can be very interesting animals to keep but caution must be used at all times. Venomous can also have bad days when they are very willing to strike for no apparent reason. Do your research be for selecting your first venomous and get tools hooks, tongs, large tweezers, snake bags. Heavy weight towels can come in handy as well. You may also want to consider building a trap box.
