This seems to be something they ran Feb 2008 but I do not remember seeing it posted on any forum.

That is sad unless they are being fair and I'm not sure if they are or are not? Did they post a map of Pit Bull owners? Big Cat owners? And so on... Fair is fair. Heck, I want to see a map of owners who have Bee hives in my area, last I heard more people die each year from Bee/wasp stings in the states than Venomous snake bites. F-ing bee owners, that's bull crap they can let their bee's fly wild! (Of course I kid)

Well here is how I see it...sex offenders are people who have committed crimes that are capable of committing sex crimes again, so their address is published for the safety of children and the general public.
Legal venomous keepers have not committed any crime, and if published in a paper, I would sue, it is called invasion of privacy and also descrimination.
If there is a law enacted allowing it I would demand gun owners, large dog owners, and anyone with a criminal background of domestic violence, or assault be posted also, as all of those mentioned are capable of taking someones life.
If my animals were of any danger to the public, my FWC officer would not issue my license.

First they came for the big cat keepers and no one spoke up because we dont keep big cats. Then they came for all the raptor keepers and no one spoke up, since we do not keep raptors. Then they came for the crocodilian keepers, and yet again no one spoke up because we do not keep crocodilians. And then they came for the snake keepers, and there was no one left to fight for us....

I agree with Paul, this is a clear invasion of privacy and also discrimination, and the reptile keepers should get together and file a class action lawsuit against the newspaper, and the individual who works for the newspaper who wrote the article.
It says the source is the Florida Fish and Wildlife.
Is that list of reptile keepers a public record ?
If it is not, they might also have a case against what ever wildlife employee who provided the list.
Considering the Bill they are meeting about today, which would eliminate importers of wildlife, it is fairly clear that the ultimate goal is the get rid of reptile keepers.
Stop fresh imports, and let the natural attrition rate eventually eliminate the animals that have been grandfathered in. I would look for them to try to limit the number of folks getting reptile licenses in the future. They could easily do this by raising the yearly cost, and by raising the cost of the insurance bond.
You folks in Florida know who the Commissioners are. And you know who you Legislators are. You have the power of the vote which can help determine what kind of folks you have representing you. Perhaps, even better, some of your reptile folks should try to get elected yourself. Then there would be a pro-reptile voice in the State Government.

Voting is important. As for dogs, When I licensed my Pit Bull I got a visit from the animal cops to make sure that there were no signs of fighting dog training gear. So in that regard, tabs are already kept on my dog and I. They never sed anything about my snakes. I also reload my own ammunition and have lots of gun powder on hand. Because of this the fire dept. requires me to keep a sign in the window so they know that there are explosives in the house. I can see the safety aspect of proper officials having a map of hot keepers, But to put it in the news paper is wrong. It could cause trouble for lots of folks with neighborhood associations and all that, not to mention the fact that they told thieves ware to go steal some hots.

Here in Va. we had at least two of our newspapers publish a list of people who were in posession of a concealed carry permit for a handgun.
I wasn't even aware of it until friends starting saying "I didn't know you carried a gun"! Needless to say I felt violated.
I know its not quite the same but it sure is distressing to be singled out despite being a law abiding citizen.

Funny sort of, might make criminals think twice before breaking in. I always laugh with my neighbors, if the alarm doesn't scare you the Rottie will, if you make it past him and the cops have not shown up you might have broken into the wrong damn room, Rattle, Rattle! If that doesn't scare you off maybe my handgun or shotgun will.
I just got my concealed so if someone wants to do a search of what houses have guns, I think that is just like the Beware of Dog sign I have. I'm already a paranoid Army Vet, it's his damn fault he broke into the wrong house! I post signs as much as I can!
