A good rule of thumb for an unwanted encounter with a venomous snake in the wild is:
Stop - Stand still and remain calm.
Look - Look in the direction you want to go to ensure there are no hazards, like stuff you could trip on or another venomous snake (especially during breeding season).
Back Away - Back out of the snake's striking range slowly but deliberately.

Hi Gary,
Most outfitters (I got my pair from Cabela's) have snake armour. They wrap around your legs and boots and extend up to the kneen. Besides protecting your lower legs from snakes,they also keep out cactus, barbed wire, and thorns. They are light weight, and best of all are camo! Glad you did not get juiced and will live to herp another day.
