Don't take it too heart. I've noticed that often the smugest are also those who's 'expertise' often wouldn't stand up to much scrutiny.
The more I learn, the more I realise how much I have to learn. So many snakes, so little time ;-)
All the best

I know exactly what you are talking about. It took many people to actually get answers when I was young. Well Im not old...18. It wasnt untill I planned to make a purchase that they would be nice to me. Not even them at times.
Therefore, Ive came up with 3 stereotypes.
1) "I see your money, so Ill talk to you and be as nice as I can to make your money mine." That one is for the ones that are nice as soon as you are ready to buy.
2) "Buy somethin or leave" That one is for the ones that are extremely stuck up and just want a sale, and NO other complications. Im also comming to a conclusion that they either dont know what they are talking about or arent upfront about the truth of their animals. Its also possible that they just dont care about what you do as well.
3) "I want to help the young and old herp community" These are the people you want to talk to and buy from. They care about your questions, and even if they dont, they know if you mess up, it hurts them to, so they will atleast help you to benifit themselves. None the less, these are the people that are typically upfront about their animals, and know what they are talking about.
Ive also learned that in the herp community, there are too many people out for your money even if they seem nice. So the best advice ever given, is when planning a sale, know the animal, so you dont get faulty information and/or a faulty price.
And lastly, like I said this is stereotypical, and only my opinion, they could be wrong proven or not, there will be other opinions, and there may be some that dont even fall in any of these catagories.
Sorry if I had offended anyone with the stereotypes.
Chris
