Stories are always interesting, and thought maybe our readers might like to share stories on bites they have taken in the past. Not bosting, but the mistakes we have made and outcomes. I took a hit a couple yrs ago from a crotalus astrox and lost my finger, all because I didn't look on the other side of the water bowl before removing it. My finger blew up the size of a golf ball in less than 5 minutes, and before I could get to the hospital, my finger spit wide open from the pressure. I was given 8-9 viles of antivenom over several hours and still lost my finger. The Astox was only 7 inches long when he bit me and I still own him today.

Why post as anonymos? I am a true snake lover and would not consider getting rid of the snake because of my error. That was one mistake in 25 yrs of hot keeping and because of that i have learned a hard and valuable lesson. Other than that, my snakes have the ultimate set up and would never send it away and take the chance of lessor care.

Grey, I think Mr. Anonymous was implying or joking that possibly after that incident, the snake thinks he owns you. It is tough to sometimes talk about our bad experiences with bites. I know I certainly keep mine to myself, because like you said, it's nothing to bost about. I have been bitten once, and I hope when I'm 60 I will say the same thing. I was re-locating an Osage Copperhead off of a busy campground roadway. After bagging him successfully and letting him out to freedom, I just had to get one last glimpse of him(silly decision). To make a long story short, I was bitten on my right index nuckle in the process of grabbing for his tail. After the bagging and relocation, he was a bit upset, and he let me know with the amount of venom he unloaded on me. Luckily for me, although I experienced hell for quite a while, I made a full recovery. Looking back on the situation I can pick out a few things that I should have known better than to do. I guess I had a bit too much complacency in me that night. ------Anthony

After 3yrs of keeping I havent been bitten yet, however I have came very close. I have a 5ft spectacled cobra in a vision cage, I opened it up one day, thinking he was in the hide box, so i lifted it up with the hook. He wasnt in the hide box. Instead he was on the inside upper lip above the glass, swung down, wrapped and climped out on my hook, I had actually touched the snakes head before I could let go, and rehook him to place him back in the cage. For that reason, I dont like to use vision cages, unless someone has an idea to block that top ledge.
Good Luck
Chris
