I suppose you mean Oxybelis - they are weirdly fascinating and I kept them many years ago, but they were a pain to keep fed since they only ate lizards and favored anoles. If I had lived a little farther south or east where anoles abound it would have been a lot easier. One pair even bred, unexpectedly, but the babies were impossible to find food for, so I ended up trading them for some turtles [being a kid]. I later found out that very little was known about their reproduction, and that captive breedings were virtually unheard of. I recently saw some in a pet store in Lancaster PA - they also had some Asian vine snakes [Ahaetulla nasuta]. These are the only ones I've seen for sale recently. Since I wasn't really in the market [and everything there seemed on the high-pricey side] I didn't pay too much attention to how much they cost - seems like the Oxybelis were a little less than $100 and the Ahaetulla more.

I agree with Frederick.....we, too, have kept a number of vine snake species and found them to be extremely fascinating creatures. In fact, probably one of the most interesting snakes to observe in a decked out naturalistic enclosure. But, as mentioned, most are hard wired to feed on lizards and unless you have a good source, it becomes problematic. If you have a good source for anolis lizards then by all means enjoy them. Watching them stalk prey is better than anything you'll see on TV.

My friend has a green asain vine snake on display in his little zoo he calls the jungle He has had it four at least 4 years and it is set up all natural. But this thing now thinks people are the bearers of lizards .Any one in front of the cage is met by him waiting at the part of the vision that is opened at feeding time. The dude is always hungry and never misses a meal.

Thanks for the info everyone. i have too also seen the asian vines for sale recently which resparked my memory and fascination i once had. Living in kansas i doubt i could ever get one. Never seen any for sale anywhere close and not sure about our laws. Kansas is pretty strict on non native venomous. not sure bout rear fanged but, something i would look into in the next few years. i really doubt i would try to breed them. baby anoles are hard to come by for the juveniles. would love to find a nice sub adult to young adult someday.

Chris, if I lived in Florida where anoles abound, I would definitely be keeping some vine snakes. As Rob says, their stalking behavior is really fun to watch. They do these herky-jerky back-and-forth movements, gradually inching closer with the forepart of their bodies, probably helping them resemble a vine being moved by the breeze instead of a hungry predator. Their tongue-flick is also strange and distinctive.
