Perhaps we should also be asking which vendor was selling small monocle cobras at the last couple of Hamburg reptile shows ?
Best Regards

That would be searching for a needle in a haystack in my opinion John. Naja kaouthia as you know, is one of the most readily available species at shows. I hope the local DNR does a full investigation into this case as I would almost bet she or someone close to her was keeping the snake. This reminds me of a similar case here in Florida back in 2001 or 2002. A lady stumbled out into her front yard after she was bitten by her boyfriend's Albino Monocle. She waved down a passerby and they called 911 as she said she was bitten by a "white cobra". A frantic search to find what species bit her at the time as it was still unknown to a degree. FL FWC, Miami Dade Venom 1, and other agencies called dealers and went to speak with them in order to find out what snake it was. Long story short, her boyfriend came forward and said he always thought the snake was venomoid. He was charged accordingly.

John That is the question. Here is how sick I am I think that a volunteer from a known anti us group bought the snake pricked her finger with a needle and said the snake bit her. Some would even go as far as take a bite from a small snake to produce the media frenzy that could follow .I know that I am sick and surely need help but now you have scene the next nail mabie only one or 2 more and the coffin is sealed for life. This person is a fraud no matter what and her story is crap.

The first thing that entered our minds on seeing this snake was "Hamburg special." Z, all of the female hot keepers I know, or know of, are first-rate and not about to be involved in an incident such as this. I have, however, witnessed sellers at reptile shows playing down the danger of the snakes on their table to prospective buyers who obviously don't have a whit of experience and should instead be steered to the ball python/cornsnake areas [or better yet, the book tables]. It is illegal to own any type of venomous snake in MD, a situation which naturally would prompt an illegal keeper into denying ownership in the case of a bite. [That is also why I live in PA].

Hey Rob - I can't reply to my email on this here little gadget and I'm too beat to go to the library tonight, so hopefully you'll see this - I meant to add that all of your snakes are eating well and doing great - they're still in quarantine but should be coming out soon [mine finally came out early this month, and they went in back in Sept.]. The big coloratus is really spectacular, as is the terrificus, one of the nicest I've seen and, I think, the prettiest neotropical rs in our collection now. Both of those should be going on display this year. Love that baby timber too. All the best -
