Yep, I was gonna say that, but you beat me to it! We got 6 inches this past Friday, and some parts of SC got a lot more than that. More record cold is forecast for this week. We didn't get our usual "January thaw" with several days in the upper '60's or higher, either. It's just been cold since mid-December and shows little signs of letting up. On top of that, there has been record rainfall/precipitation throughout the state, and many rivers have remained above flood stage for weeks, so I'd guess that a lot of hibernation burrows and shelters have been flooded and their occupants drowned. The amphibians ought to start finally making a comeback, though. They've taken a major hit over the past several years due to drought conditions, and now the pendulum has swung the other way.

we got 5 inches of snow here at the beach...but i'm still hopeful stuff will be under tin by mid march....
