I recently bought two (male and female) Moellendorff's Ratsnakes/ Red-headed Ratsnake/ 100 flower snake. I cant seem to find ANY information on them on the internet except ONE source which doesnt tell very much. I was told when i bought them that they need low temperatures, a "forest"-like bedding and practically no light. They said between 65 and 70 degrees and they pretty much only eat rat pups. I just want to see if anyone else has any experience with them. Thank you for any help you can provide, anything will help.

From Living Snakes of the World....
Elaphe moellendorffi....Meollendorff's ratsnakes are often heavily parasitized, and prompt elimination of identified forms is essential. Secure hiding places aid in reducing stress. Conditions acceptable for other rat snakes should be provided.Temps of 70 - 75 degrees f. are satisfactory, and higher temps should be avoided.
Geographic range....Extreme SE Peoples Republic of China and northern Vietnam.

I have them, anf they are easy to keep, IF, they are captive born.
Wild-caughts don't do very well, they may eat a few times and then roll.
Captive born animals do well on spagnum moss (dampened) and a large water bowl for humidity, and they will eat mice or rats. live, dead, f/t etc. A hide box is a must. I keep mine at abt 75-78 degrees.
Wild caughts are heavily parasitized, and will require a lot of hydration, and leave them alone for a period of time. I have only had success with a few getting to eat for a period of time, then they died.
Check out Karl Krumpke's website.

Karl is THE man, when it comes to these snakes.

Thank You very much for the help guys! I checked them over for mites and ticks and found nothing as I've experienced this with wild caught ball pythons. What other parasites should I check for?
