I heard the same story from a neighbor. Misidentified/complete fabrication is most likely the case here. I try to never say impossible, but in this case HIGHLY IMPROBABLE (99.9%).

The only report of a 15' rattlesnake that I know of is from September of '09. If this is what you're talking about then here's the link for photos of the snake and its TRUE length. http://snakesareus.com/snake_myths

Next thing you know the local numbnuts will be hollering about eastern diamondbacks "interbreedin'" with burmese pythons. In fact, I'm surprised we haven't heard that one yet...

The only time I've seen a claim THAT preposterous was the one Jason posted the link to. It's about as likely as finding a human 16 feet tall (twice the largest recorded size)...

One of my college students forwarded an email to me about this 15 foot EDB that was "capable of swallowing a young child alive" and a bunch of other completely bogus and very entertaining "facts". The snake in question was supposedly captured in Fort Lauderdale and based on the picture I saw, the snake was no more than 6-feet; still an impressive EDB.

i would be interested in knowing how big the eastern diamondbacks at Columbia SC zoo were back in the 90s...they appeared as big around as a 15ft burmese....looked big around as my thigh, but that was many years ago....
