"The Amphibians and Reptiles of Arkansas" book can answer your question along with most field guides.

I have never seen one here, and I have lived n Arkansas for over 30 years. They would be found in the western, central western part of the state. Let me paraphrase that, I have never looked for one here.

I'm with Randal. I've lived here for 27 years (all my life) and have 'herped' approximately 17 years of that. I've seen timbers and a pigmy, but never an atrox. However, a couple members of the Arkansas Herpetological Society (snakesofarkansas.com) seem to be pretty good at finding them around places like Mt. Magazine and westward around Ft. Smith. I believe Petit Jean is their farthest eastward reach but I don't know of the last documented sighting there. Magazine seems to reliably produce them - and timbers as well.
