Subspecies now has species status

Just read this article on vipera berus. It stated that vipera berus sachalinensis is now a species (V.sachalinensis).Will this effect how this snake is managed coservation-wise (protected?).
Any answers appriciated!

Andrew, it is likely that not much will change protection wise, but that could vary depending on what country the snakes are found in.
Vipera are wide ranging snakes, and some countries offer them more protection than others.
Most likely, the laws will just be updated to reflect the change, and most likely any protections that Vipera berus had will also be extended to Vipera sachalinensis.
