I am really upset right now!!! I just went to the government regulations page and saw that 1994 people have made public comment. The problem is 1539 of those comments were actually made in 2008 during the NOI. That means only 455 have been made since the proposed rule was published in the federal register back in March 2010. What is even worse is that half of the 455 are from HSUS and othe AR groups. That means that only about 200 members of the Reptile Nation have made comment!!! Why is no one making comment? This is really bad! USARK has been spending thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours fighting this. We need the Reptile Nation to stand up and make comment NOW! DEADLINE is Tuesday May 11, 2010!!
Go To www.Kill-RuleChange.com and make public comment.
I have heard a lot of pissing and moaning about unfair legislation and regulation. Venting on a forum will not change one thing out there in the world! What will change things are individuals taking action... Have You Taken Action? Make public comment!!!!!

Andrew My comment is made.I think it will slide through just like florida.I do not see how we are going to change the minds of a predetermined out come. This is a conspiracy upon us and we lost already.I know that you have fought the good fight but I think that these guys have already decided. We just do not fit in main stream America today. The more popular reptiles become the more they come at us.The venomous snakes will be a easy task compared to the boas and pythons.I will see you guys on the other side, later

Andrew, I think a lot of herpers have given up.
You would think that it would not be that difficult for them to go to a website and make a comment, or, send a letter or fax, or, make a telephone call.
When I tried to encourage folks to keep fighting, it was amazing how many of them came up with answers like "they had sent letters in the past, and why should they go through all that trouble again" !
What also amazed me, was how many of them had negative things to say about USARK, mostly because some disgruntled outspoken python breeders had been trashing USARK on the big snake forums.
Average folks who keep large constrictors tend to worship the folks who breed those snakes, and do not see that those breeders are just in it for the money.
When those folks who are the breeders can not get together to work saving their own businesses, or support the one group who is trying to save them (USARK), then there is little help for the hobby.
Reptile keepers will get what they deserve. They will most likely loose the big constrictors, although there is still time to make a difference, if they get motivated in the next few days.
We had a bit of a chance, after the record cold that hit Florida killed many of the pythons in the Everglades. A few herpers tried to use that to support our cause, but, most just set in their hide boxes, and watched TV, and did nothing.
One major problem is the folks who keep other types of reptiles and amphibians could care less about the big python folks, and they will not care about the venomous folks, when they are the next group attacked, and they will not care about the monitor lizard folks, when they are attacked after that, etc. They will not care, until the regulators come after their ball python or bearded lizard, etc. The reptile industry is disjointed, and will never come together to support the folks who keep different animals.
In the end, all reptile keepers will loose. And, it will be their own faults.
I have to compliment USARK and Andrew, because you folks see the big picture, and you are some of the only folks out there trying to save the hobby. You have worked very hard trying to make a difference. And, you have done just that in many cases involving local laws.
Unfortunately, many of the folks who support USARK by becoming members expect for you to do all the work. Many of them have an attitude of "I paid them money, now let them fix the problem." They do not understand that they have to do more than just pay dues. They do not know that for USARK to work, they have to continue to send letters, faxes, make calls, visit representatives, make online comments, etc.
Whether that is due to reptile folks being stupid, or, lazy, or, uncaring, it is hard to say. There are a few who are not that way, and who have worked along side of USARK to try to save the hobby. Unfortunately, most have not.
Andrew and USARK deserve a huge amount of credit for their efforts in trying to save the reptile hobby.
And, there is still time to do something about the Federal python bill. But, time is running out fast.
If reptile folks loose the whole hobby, it will be their own fault for not coming together to support one another. It will be their own fault for all of the bickering within the industry that splits it apart. It will be the fault of the greedy big constrictor breeders who would rather go on forums and complain about the only people trying to save the hobby.
Best Regards
John Z

Ok, Andrew, I'm a bit confused. They said "ok we aren't going to do this by vote in congress, we are going to do the rule change process"
Now, USFWS is going to listen to everyones opinion and decide themselves whether to add them. No vote needed.
Now, riddle me this -- Who got USGS to write that bogus paper in the first place? Wasn't it commissioned by USFWS?
Isn't there a bit of a conflict of interest there? Isn't this like asking the rat to decide what to do with the cheese?
My prediction is this whole "listening to your comments" is a sham. They are going to take the same approach the judge did in My Cousin Vinny when ruling on an objection that Joe Pesci made --- "Well sir, that was a lucid, well thought out and convincing argument - OVERRULED."
"Well sir, that was a convincing, well thought out and lucid argument against banning snakes .... BANNED"
USFWS was behind the ban in the first place, now we are putting it in their hands to make the decision. sounds shady.

Chad that is what I thought but I still commented. The whole thing is a ram job and we all know it .This is based on a few people who just will never understand what we do.I have a friend who rides bulls now that is dangerous but I would never dream of stopping him.If this were based on real facts as well as real danger dogs would of been gone long ago as well as cattle horses and bee keeping. This has to do with some urban insanity that has gone wild. There are no facts to support the ban. This is a AR agenda and we are stuck in the center of the war. This is a war by the way.Every time we stopped a ban another bill was put forth. If this was beat tho it will not be another would take its place. That is why Florida's ban said breeders could continue breeding. They knew they would never be allowed to sell the offspring out of state and they could not sell in the state so they are screwed.Mark my words if they can decide that a common boa is a injurus animal then what do you think about a cobra or a rattler. As sick as it makes we are a dead chicken if this passes.

Made my comment!!
I know it seems that this hobby is always under attack by some new bill (and it is) and I know its hard to get passionate and fired up over a threat that has become so common place.
The future of this hobby boils down to a political endurance test. Please support those fighting for our rights and do what you can to encourage those new to the hobby.

Letter sent this afternoon, Andrew. What you and USARK do on behalf of reptile owners is quite often thankless and I definitely appreciate it.
