Today is the 5 yr anniversary of one of the worst days of my life. May 6, 2005, my dad and I were living in Belen, NM, about 25 miles south of Albuquerque. He was a frail 78 yr old man, who spent his afternoons watering his fruit trees. My 6 yr old female Pitbull would follow him around the yard, lay down by him while he watered each tree, and then move w/him while he moved the garden hose.
That afternoon, she would not let him get near one of the apple trees, and when he went to shew her away, she snapped at his hand. He obviously got mad, told me to get my " Go* Da***d dog", and when he reached for the hose a second time, she actually bit him. The unfortunate part was that as she bit him, she got tagged in the right jowl by a rattlesnake. I threw her in the back of the truck, and my dad and I flew up the interstate toward Albuquerque. She started to slip away, I gave her mouth to mouth and CPR, but it was too late.10 minutes later, I tapped on the back window and told him to go home, it was over.
She saved his life, and we are at that time of year again. Please watch your steps, and more importantly, your childrens. Just thought I'd share this.
