I catch and remove snakes in Las Cruces, NM. I often hear about the shortage there is of antivenom and have heard that there are places in El Paso that will buy living rattlers to milk. Does anyone know how to find and get in touch with these companys? What do they do with the snake after it has become too old? I refuse to give a snake over to be slaughtered. Thanks again for the info.

most places that buy snakes in bulk, are used for meat, or taxidermy. sell them here at SHHS, or release them.

There is one antivenom for North American Crotalids, made by Protherics. THis is made is the UK and all of their venom is taken from a population in sterile conditions within a Protherics lab. In the US, a number of companies collect venom for "research" but I don't think that this research has turned up much. Others can comment on this better than I...
Cheers
