Jason, You might go with some of the atheris breeds. they are a great snake to keep. I do not know what venomous snakes you have handled, But shift boxs, and hooks, are a must with all venomous. Just my thoughts. Russell.

Atheris are very cool but the is no antivenin so I would not suggest them, even if one is to claim a them sub-lethal anything venomous CAN kill you........
one more thing, keep your own antivenin if you want to get into exotics its not just your problem you could deplete a zoos stocks because of your mistake thus making it dangerous for them to work.....
note: there is some evidence that Echis antivenin is cross-reactive to Atheris bites but I would look in to that yourself if you really want one......
later,

I would recomend an eyelash viper Bothrops Schlegeli. They are small tree viper with low aggression compared to other venomous. They are arboral and require a climbing branch, leaves and humidity (misting). During winter months they need to be kept at a temperature of at least 80 because they are tropical. A Waglers viper also called a temple viper would also be a good choice.
