Fellow herpers I need your help. I recently had my book "Cobras in His Garden" sent to Bill for a signature in light of his 100th bday.
IT WAS STOLEN!
The package was clearly labeled with the Haast's names and the serpentariums address. Someone knew what was in the package.
Please, if you come across this book for sale (ebay, craigslist, kingsnake, or here) that has been signed by Bills wife and a note to Daniel Duff on xmas 2001
please let me know!! If you are in the market for this book and you happen to buy this one I will refund your money. This book is dear to me, it has been in my possession for 10 years and I never intended to lose it.
Thanks guys,
Please email me or call (360)471-8719 if you can help.

So sorry to hear about your loss.
How did you send it to him? USPS, UPS? Did you insure it or have Delivery Confirmation, tracking, or anything? Are you sure it was stolen?
If you aren't positive it was stolen and you didn't have any form of tracking you might try printing some fliers telling how much this package means to you (without disclosing its contents). Assuming you used USPS, send them to the individual USPS offices it would have gone through on its way to the Haasts. You could also call the USPS offices. Someone might put extra effort into looking for it for you.
If you used media mail, it could still be in transit and show up after all.

I did receive a tracking number. Nancy Haast emailed me to let me know it was on the way. I tracked it to my front porch. The package arrived, ripped open.
It was sent UPS.

I would definitely contact UPS. Ask the driver who delivered the book to your home if it was open when he delivered it. Ask them to check the warehouse. Ask where it might be if it "fell" out of the package in transit. Be persistent. If it disappeared while in UPS hands, it could reappear if there is enough attention placed on the disappearance.
I had a piece of jewelry disappear in a large hotel. I realized it after I got home. I asked enough questions that it was returned several weeks later. Explanations were vague, but who cares as long as I got my necklace.
Good luck. I hope you get the book back.

The driver will be returning today to retrieve the package for a UPS investigation. I am not confidant they will do much, but its something.

I had UPS deliver a damaged package with some things missing, and filed a complaint, and they eventually located the missing parts in their shipping facility, and sent them to me.
Hopefully, your book is over there in some sort of Lost & Found department.
Best Regards

Well, UPS never showed up. I called twice today to confirm they were coming. Then My wife called, gave them the tracking number and was told they came at 6:45 pm. Thats a load of bull, I am sitting 15 ft from my door, have been all day and no one has shown up. Not a knock or a ring, nor the sound of a truck. So the driver lied! This is all a bit too suspicious to me!

Sounds like time to call a supervisor.
I'd be pretty mad with this situation.
