Not as dramatic as Peter's request, but here it is. Congrats by the way on the successful outcome Peter!
When I was younger I had a book, I think I remember entitled "Snakes of the World." It was large and relatively thin. It had a cover slip on it, and with the cover removed it was a drab beige-ish orange. I don't remember the author and I have been unsuccessful in trying to Ebay it or Google it. I remember two of the more notable pictures were of a Boelen's python hanging on the side of a tree, picture taken from slightly under the snake looking up toward it and the cloudy, rainy sky. Another was of a taipan hanging out of a hole in the side of an old, bleached out tree. What I don't remember is what the cover of the book looks like, just without the cover.
If anyone has any idea who authored this book and where I might be able to find a copy available, I'd be grateful. I've rummaged through every old storage bin I can find around here and have come up with nothing.

Snakes of the World was written by Raymond L. Ditmars. There are several copies for sale here http://www.alibris.com/booksearch?qwork=6146632&matches=102&keyword=snakes+of+the+world&cm_sp=works*listing*title

Thanks! and ditto on Pugs post. Alibris.com seems to be a good source for out of print books, they also have several copies of Cobras in His Garden if anyone cares to add it to their library. Good luck on your quest.

The book Snakes of the World that you are looking for could not be the book with that title by Raymond Lee Ditmars, as Bolen's python was not discovered until 1953, and Dr. Ditmars died in 1942.
It is possible that the book by Chris Mattison, with the same title, Snakes of the World, is what you are looking for ? If that is the case, it can be found on Amazon.

Another site to check is:
http://www.abebooks.com/
They bill themselves as the larges marketplace for new and used books in the world. I've had good luck finding out of print zoology/biology books there.
