I was reading a venom chart and article and saw where they had the Eastern Coral Snake at # 8 drop for drop deadliest venom. There are so many opinions out there, but I wonder how acurate that is. The other 9 went along with most top 10 for the exception of the coral.

Have a look at the LD50 section of my database for actual scientifically validated numbers.

Dr. BGF,
I utilize your database on a quite regular basis, and it seems to me that the subcutaneous LD50 data has changed with regard to several species, most notably the addition of some species of Marine Venomous Snakes, and especially the terrestrial species O. scutellatus/B. multicinctus. I realize that this database is updated, however, how often are these serpents tested? The reason for my inquiry is: that unless I am seeing things, the LD50 ratios for O. scutellatus and B. multicinctus were lower previously. Would I just be mistaken that the LD50 ratios have changed , or do different methodologies of subcutaneous LD50 testing produce different LD50 ratios, thus creating a fluxuation in the actual figures.
Comments Please:
Cheers,
Derek K.

Hi mate
I haven't changed the list since its inception. Perhaps you had looked at a previous testing method?
In anycase, LD50 testing is on the decline (mostly due to animalists secrewing things up and making getting ethics approval a bloody nightmare). A number of other methods are being developed for comparative toxicity but they are usually limited towards activity upon a certain tissue or blood pathway.
All the best
B
