Thought this might be useful to some of you posters who actually handle venomous animals.

Seems to work OK on a fairly tame Gila.
I have to wonder if it would work as well when two of them are fighting over the same mouse, and thrashing around the cage, or, when one is locked onto someone's hand ?
Best Regards

I wonder how hard you have to rub and if this was tried on multiple Gila's or just that one.

According to the article "You can see that this technique works in a fraction of a second and on all three of our Gila monsters." It is not stated on how tame they are.

I have a 19 year old chuckwalla that always gapes when I scratch her neck. I just always thought she enjoyed the neck rub. Any other accounts of large lizards doing this.
