Wow, great to see that you're getting some impact, Luke ! And, surprisingly, I don't think that the news article wasn't written too badly, either.
It's not over-sensationalistic, and fairly straight-forward, and to the point. Very good to see. Of course, it's still typical media coverage, hunting for a "story", but most reptile-related articles that I see, concerning legislation, are far worse.
My team, here in PA, are all rooting for you, and very proud to see this kind of dedication, in the private sector. Forgive me for not getting back to you sooner regarding publication of the report in our journal. I just moved into a new house, and have been renovating non-stop, while trying to get everything in order for our state Scientific Collection Permit for spring, which is an extra headache this year, since it is due to also include Sistrurus c. catenatus this season. And, on top of that, I'm am still finalizing our Nerodia sipedon study, which has been three years of field and lab work in the making. So... things have been pretty hectic around here. lol..
Although, we are certainly still publishing, and I've had the board review it. I'm shooting to publish in our December edition of the newsletter. Your report will be a great piece for this edition, with all of the mishaps in the media here in PA, lately.
As for taking your presentation further, I should be finished up with a couple things here by the end of next week, and I'll email you some of our draft models. Another one of my side-projects lately, has been really thoroughly organizing a good permit system model, in case the state would ever propose a ban that made it through. I hate for it to come down to that, but with some of the morons out there, it just seems like an inevitable eventuality, sometimes.. Having a solid, bullet-proof, permit system model drafted, that no legislator has to think about, or pay for, makes it far more likely for them to adopt it..
And, I also still have to email you some of the conservation program information, that I mentioned on the "The role of private keepers in herp conservation" thread. I haven't forgot; just been insanely busy. Will be in touch, some time next week.
Congratulations, and good luck moving forward ! At least you've made the first step, in what could be a project that takes a lot of work. These things are usually pretty irritating, and sometimes take multiple approaches, but you're definitely on the right track, and it's really nice to see some, for the most part positive, media coverage, as well.. You're certainly one of the few that have the dedication to make it happen.
Take Care,
-J. Mendrola

No problem about the timing of stuff, John. Take your time. I know first hand how hectic life can get!
Your draft for licensing of dangerous exotics would be great for me to get my hands on. It probably won't do much for me at the municipal level, but like you guys down there in PA, there have been recent attempts to ban the hobby province-wide in Ontario and I have been talking to provincial members of parliament (namely the ones who drafted the legeslation). A document like that would be VERY useful for administrating dangerous exotics provincially instead of a ban... or at least showing that it can be done.
You have my contact info, just get back to me whenever you have time!
