If you paint or stain the inside of your cage and then use Polyurethane to seal it. Your good to go or not? Same with the type of wood you use. If you use cedar or pine for your cage then seal it with polyurethane. Does that take away th affects of useing pine or cedar or other toxic woods?

The cure time can be a lot longer with Polyurethane. Use a water based Polyacrylic and you should be fine. Stay away from oil based unless you have a lot of time for it to cure. Make sure the fumes have dissipated before you put your animals in. I would still stay away from Cedar (just my opinion). Sealed plywood should be ok.

I agree. Best to stay away from cedar completely. I've used polyurethane many times with no problems. Just let it dry and air out well before you add animals. Take care, Marty
