I have noticed that when I am speaking to someone at a forum and they are from Australia, they all seem to not care for Steve Erwin (croc hunter). I wonder why that is.

Hey Jeff, I don't know but I would say it has to do with his handling. To me he is teaching kidds to run up and grab a snake by the tail. you know, (NO WORRIES). To me this is not good teaching. Most of us adults know better (some don't) But our kidds are seeing him do this and think they can to. What say you ????

Hum, maybe, but I was thinking that maybe he appeals so much to Americans and that pissed them off. I don't know, just seems odd. I was at church a couple Sundays ago and a new family from Australia was there and they all hated the Croc hunter.

One thing that was pointed out to me by an aristocrat from Australia was that Steve Irwin's accent is the Australian version of an American southern redneck accent. That's something Americans would never pick up on, and could be the reason that Australian's don't want Steve Irwin representing them the world over.

Maybe it's just jealousy. Anytime someone does well there's always people ready with criticism ready to bring them down. The fact is that the man has a gift. Plain and simple. I wouldn't encourage others to handle their animals in the same way because you dont have that gift. His television programs have probably helped to educate millions on a variety of wildlife not to mention the money that has been brought into conservation and education as a direct result of he and his wifes efforts. To all his naysayers I ask this....how much have you done???

I like Steve. I just do not think he should handle snakes (ON TV) in that manor he does. I feel it gives kids the wroung idea. His gift with snakes still makes me sit at the very frount edge of my seat.... That black mamba he grabed by the tail just about killed me... ((((("WOW")))))
Stay safe

Tommyboy, that is the answer. Look at what he has done for animal planet and the nature boom television going on now. Marlin Perkins is the Pioneer of it, but The Croc has put it on the tele map.
