I am reading all these lengthy posts about hex armor gloves and there seems to be a majority consensus that they are bad because you should not play with your venomous reptiles and because they are untrustworthy. However, hex armor gloves can be used for things other than free handling hot herpes. There have been several occasions where I have had to interact with my animals and venom defender gloves were simply just the best tool in my arsenal to use. Just as there is an appropriate time for my hooks, tubes, shift boxes, there is also a time when my hex armor gloves come in handy. In one instance, one of my cobras got stuck in the top corner of his enclosure because he wedged himself into a crevice. I had to manually stick my hand in the cage to free him up. From the angle he was in it would have been extremely risky and difficult to do without the gloves. In another, and more recent instance, I came home to a tank full of new little baby squams. I was very excited, however, I had to remove the animals from the enclosure which has a lot of décor. I removed all the visible animals with my tongs. In addition, I was unsure of whether or not any had slithered into any hard to get places. I had to remove all the décor from the cage well aware that some of the baby snakes could be lurking on the said items. Needless to say, my venom defender gloves were a very useful tool to have at my disposal. As for their durability, I have let several of my animals chomp away at them and they have not been breached. I am not saying that all hex armor gloves will defend against all species or that there may or may not be some defective gloves out there. I am just saying that in my immediate personal experience the Hercules R8E venom defender gloves that I purchased from Clem at http://snakeprofessional.com/snake-and-reptile-gloves.html have held up against some fairly decent sized animals and that I am personally comfortable with relying on them as much as I am with any other tool in certain situations. Just because they can be used to free handle venomous reptiles does not mean that is all that they are good for.
