First let me apologize if starting a new thread to a recent question is inappropriate. I originally asked about neonate housing and was initially answered, so I was concerned about no one noticing if I asked different questions on the same thread. Anyway my gravid Agkistrodon piscivorus piscivorus is a few weeks from the big day, I settled on some 2.5 quart plastic storage containers with a locking lid, ( I could not find the screw on lid type that Chris had mentioned) but living in south/ west G.A. That type of thing is relatively common! Having containers in hand led to a few more questions: what size hole to drill and how many ? Heating? Chris mentioned he had 40 watt lights above his, just wondering if this is per enclosure, and if so, how to best give the neonate's some temperature variation within such a small enclosure? Also some recent reading I came across seemed to indicate a couple to few still births is common? This is my first breeding attempt, so that has me a little worried, how are your numbers, and what can I do to keep my female stress free? She has gone off feed and will be going into her second shed in a day or two within the last 35 days... Is this normal? Sorry for so much at once , but quality info on this subject seems to be few and far between.
Thankyou again in advance.

I have found that keeping temperate species at room temperatures is fine. I havent used supplemental heat on native species in a long time. I shut off the air vent to my snake room during the summer.

Well I'm with you on that one. My snake room will need to be cooled off before any supplemental heat is needed, with well over 20" of rain in the last month and the sun breaking through the clouds the last few days, were sitting in upper 90's and close to 100% humidity outside. ;)
I would like air hole ideas- if it matters- sometimes I get too technical.
I'm thinking about 5-7 5/16th holes drilled into both sides of the container.
After the holes are drilled, I'm thinken 1/2 to 3/4 of small gravel to cover the bottom maybe a spot of sphagnum and water dish or not?

I would not use gravel. Assuming it is temperate snakes, I would use aspen shavings or cypress mulch, a water bowl big enough for them to curl up in and maybe a hide box. Thats it. Considering its a rack system you probably dont need hides though. I would give the tubs as much ventilation as you can without compromising the security of the tubs. You dont want it too humid in there or youll have possible respiratory infections, but you dont want any animals getting out.
