Question for site owner, moderator, admins, etc.
I have posted here occasionally for a number of years and read/researched this site even longer (search my name if you wish). I have learned a lot and hopefully contributed something in return.
Putting the trolls a side - the subject of "respect", "entitlement", "gate keeping", "educating", etc has many times made its cycle through these hallow halls. While the names and threads may change the issue stays the same.
I personally have receive great advice on just about everything I have posted. It is the Internet and you will always have those that choose to dedicate their time/energy to fine tuning your grammar, spelling, argue definition or how ugly your dog is. You can not force everyone to get along or even play nicely.
The advantage of an open forum is that everyone and anyone can post. The disadvantage is that everyone and anyone can post. I have often wondered if the name shouldn't be changed. "Ask an Expert" implies those that are responding are in fact experts. There are in fact many individuals here that I (for what its worth) consider to be experts in their field. There are also others that (difference of opinions a side) may be posting for other reasons. Guests or new comers may not stick around long enough or be able to discern the difference.
Have you considered a rank or grade system? Found on many other sites, viewers can rank / grade advice given to them. Click "yes" if you found this advice helpful? It would not take long for the experts to get recognized as such and the bad apples to be get weeded out.
A guest or new comer could visually see whom knows what they are talking about and those that just post to be associated with the term "expert", based on the majority of "likes" or "dislikes". No, this system is not flawless but if I got advice from someone whom last 100 posts and 80 were disliked by the majority of other viewers, I probably would think again.
Appreciate all you do, please feel free to disregard/delete if this is beating a dead horse for you.
Thanks

I felt the need to comment, since this is no doubt a passive-aggressive way of expressing the "displeasure" of some of the comments I have posted.
To answer your question: one would need to completely revamp the forum model in order for us to accommodate your request.
Nothing like taking sides on the Internet via voting up/down comments.
Also, I find it quite ironic that a person with atrocious grammar would point out the fault in others.
Regards,
Andrew Hopkins

Hello Andrew,
Nice to meet you. You can believe it or not but my post has nothing to do with you or any other individual. I did not name you or anyone as I am interested in only addressing the issue. I have no cause to be passive or aggressive with you, I have never met you. To my knowledge I have not responded to anything you have ever posted and until now don't believe you have ever responded to anything I have ever posted.
If you are caught up in the latest regurgitation of this topic and are taking flack for something, you need to look again because it has not been from me. If I had wanted to jump into that conversation I would have posted there and not created my own.
My post was addressed to the site owner, moderators and admins for a reason. I am not interested in arguing and I believe any improvement to be made on this topic would come from the functional capability of the site.
In hindsight perhaps I should have contacted the site owner, moderators and admins individually privately off forum but this way gives them the opportunity to address all members at once, if they choose to. If not they can contact me privately, I am ok either way.
A grading system is not the perfect solution, I know that. I can not believe any poster posting here would take offense to a system in place that was based on the quality of their advice and expertise. An individual would soon earn the reputation they deserve not based on one persons personal opinion but that of the community.
If you disagree, ok. I am not trying to bait you into an argument and I will not be baited into one myself. Which is why I will not be responding to you or anyone else off topic in this thread anymore.
Have a great evening!
