Friday evening one of my female copperhead gave birth to two babies. One was born dead but the other one is alive fat and healthy. Even though he's fat, he just won't eat! I tried every thing from pinkies, lizards, salamanders, and even worms. I thought that they ate as soon they was born, like my corn snakes. Is it supposed to take a few day days? Or is something wrong? THANK YOU!

I don't feed anything till after the first shed. And for copperheads I feed the smallest pinkies or pinkie parts I have had neonates go 30 days before they eat. Just be patient.

This is normal. They may even go into hibernation without eating. However you may be feeding them the wrong food. Small frogs and redback salamanders is usually what they eat.

This is the time of year when copperheads begin to shut down.
They may not eat again until spring, March or April.
Try feeding pinkie parts instead of whole pinkies.
